Truckee Riverwalk & Wingfield Park

Free Riverfront Walk Through Downtown

The Truckee River cuts right through downtown, and the Riverwalk along it is Reno’s best free date — footbridges, public art, riverside patios and Wingfield Park’s little island, where free concerts and movies play on summer evenings. In warm weather you can watch kayakers surf the whitewater park or dip your feet in. Costs nothing and runs for blocks.

Idlewild Park

Riverside Park with a Free Rose Garden

A leafy park hugging the Truckee just west of downtown, with the beloved California Building, a rose garden, ponds, big shade trees and picnic lawns. It’s free and open daily, and in summer the Food Truck Fridays series rolls in with cheap eats and live music. Pack a blanket and it’s a lovely, low-key $0 afternoon by the river.

Rancho San Rafael Park & May Arboretum

Free Botanical Gardens & Open Trails

Reno’s largest regional park sprawls across 600-plus acres at the foot of the hills, with the free Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Gardens — winding paths through themed gardens — plus wide meadows, easy trails and the launch field for the Great Reno Balloon Race each fall. Free to roam, and one of the prettiest strolls in the city.

The BELIEVE Sculpture

Reno’s Iconic Downtown Photo-Op — Free

The giant steel BELIEVE sculpture — a Burning Man alum now planted permanently in City Plaza downtown — is Reno’s signature backdrop, lit up after dark and ringed by the plaza’s seasonal events (an ice rink in winter, food trucks in summer). It’s free any time; snap the classic photo, then wander the surrounding downtown murals and the riverfront a block away.

Magic Carpet Golf

Since-1974 Mini Golf — About $18 for Two

A gloriously kitschy Reno institution on South Virginia since 1974 — you can’t miss the giant blue genie and birthday cake out front. Three hand-built courses (two 19-hole, one 28-hole) wind past prehistoric and fantasy scenes, with an arcade inside. A round runs about eight to ten dollars a person, so two play for right around $18–20. Open late and mostly shaded.

Reno Aces

Triple-A Baseball on the River — Berm Seats Cheapest

A summer evening at Greater Nevada Field, home of the Triple-A Aces (a Diamondbacks affiliate), is a classic Reno date right on the Truckee downtown. Grass-berm and value seats are the cheapest way in — figure around $12–16 a ticket, so two land in the low-$20s depending on the day and opponent — and the between-innings antics with mascots Archie and Truckee are free entertainment. Stroll the Riverwalk before first pitch.

💡 Heads up: Hours, prices and seasons change — mini golf and Aces baseball are seasonal, and berm seats are the cheap way into a game. Check each spot before you head out. Want dinner too? Two eat for under $20 in Reno →  ·  Kids in tow? Kids eat free near Reno →
