DiCarlo's Pizza
Square Pie with Cold Cheese
There's no pizza like it. A Wheeling original whose family arrived from Italy in the late 1800s, DiCarlo's bakes a square Ohio Valley pie, then lays the provolone on cold and unmelted after it comes out of the oven — a bit of weird, wonderful pizza science. The crunchy crust and cool cheese are the stars; at the original you order by number and a car hop brings it to your car. Two eat for around $14.
Coleman's Fish Market
Famous Giant Fish Sandwich
A Wheeling rite of passage in the historic Centre Market. Coleman's giant fish sandwich — freshly battered, fried and stacked on plain white bread — has a cult following and the lines to prove it. Order the fries and tartar sauce on the side, and ask for the bread on the side to keep it crispy. Absurd value. Two eat for around $12.
Later Alligator
West Virginia Creperie
One of the few creperies in the state and a Centre Market destination in its own right. Order a savory crepe or a creative panini with a cup of tomato soup, and don't leave without the 'Last Tango' for dessert. A funky, beloved local hangout. Two eat for around $16.
Figaretti's Restaurant
Wheeling Italian Institution
A Wheeling red-sauce institution whose house spaghetti sauce is so beloved locals buy it by the jar. Come for generous plates of pasta and Italian-American classics in a warm, old-school room. Two eat for around $18.
Lebanon Bakery
Lebanese Bakery Since 1959
Locals have been coming since 1959 for the meat pies and grape leaf rolls and a dizzying case of Lebanese sweets. A cheap, delicious slice of Wheeling's immigrant history just off Main Street. Two eat for around $10.
Vagabond Kitchen
Creative Local Sourcing
A downtown favorite turning locally sourced ingredients into creative, chef-driven plates. A little more ambitious than the diners and dogs — share a few plates and two stay near budget. Two eat for around $20.
Wheeling Brewing Company
Centre Market Brewery
Set in the historic Centre Market district, Wheeling Brewing pours house beers alongside tasty pub dishes in an eclectic, loft-like space (open after 4 p.m.). A laid-back stop to split a few plates and a flight. Two eat for around $18.
Taqueria 304
Authentic Mexican
A small Wheeling gem that's well worth seeking out for authentic Mexican — tacos, salsas and homestyle plates done right. Friendly, cheap and a favorite with locals in the know. Two eat for around $14.
Avenue Eats
Toasted Cheese & Burgers
A modern, counter-service spot doing inventive toasted-cheese sandwiches (try The Beele, or a gouda-gorgonzola-bacon-apple-kale stack), burgers and crisp fries, with gluten-free options. Fast, fun and great-value for two. Two eat for around $16.
Ye Olde Alpha
Classic Neighborhood Haunt
When you picture a neighborhood haunt, Ye Olde Alpha fits the bill — a longtime local favorite for pizza, wings, burgers and comfort food in a relaxed, friendly pub setting. Two eat for around $16.
Sarah's
Breakfast & Lunch
Widely called Wheeling's best spot for breakfast and lunch, Sarah's stacks a big menu of morning plates and sandwiches with friendly service and easy prices. Get there early on weekends. Two eat for around $14.
Market Vines
Centre Market Wine Bar
A small, atmospheric wine bar in the Centre Market district with a nice list of pours and shareable plates — a relaxed way to cap an evening of wandering the historic market. Two eat for around $18.
💡 Pro tip: All deals are community-verified. We linked official menus only where we could confirm them, so most spots here are map-only. DiCarlo's and Coleman's are the two must-dos — order DiCarlo's ahead at lunch (lines move slow), and get Coleman's fish with the bread on the side so it stays crispy. The historic Centre Market district packs several of these within a short walk. Hours and prices change, so check before a special trip. If something's expired, flag it on our main directory so we can update it.
